About Constellation Theatre Co.

Constellation Theatre Co. is a grassroots, artist-led theatre company based in North Bay, Ontario.

We were founded with a primary focus on musical theatre for and by adults, and a mission to give artists more voice, equity, and ownership in the work we create.

“What’s in a name?”

Constellations have always been about connection — individual stars forming something greater when seen together. That idea reflects how we make theatre: artists and collaborators, each with their own spark, coming together with intention to tell meaningful stories.

Our name carries that spirit. In Constellation Theatre Co., the “co.” points to co-creation, collaboration, community, and cooperation — the values that guide our work. Our branding brings those ideas together visually, pairing celestial imagery with a familiar half-mask from musical theatre to signal both our creative focus and our love of the form.

Why Now?

We’ve long seen the need for a dedicated, professional-minded adult musical theatre company in North Bay. There are so many talented performers in our area and we are excited to create opportunities to share the stage.

In April of 2025, our board met for the first time to lay our foundations and set the stage for what is to come . . .

Our Founding Board of Directors:

Our founding Board of Directors brings together a mix of perspectives — performers, musicians, arts administrators, and professionals- all with a deep connection to North Bay and a shared vision for what Constellation Theatre Co-operative can be: a welcoming, artist-led home for high-quality musical theatre in our community.

We have room for up to 9 directors on our board – so there is room to grow. The directors guiding our first steps are:

Tim Lucier,
President

Tim owes his theatre roots to North Bay’s vibrant youth arts scene. A graduate of the Arts Nipissing program with an SHSM in Arts & Culture at Widdifield Secondary, he is also an alumnus of TOROS, where he was honoured with the Jeff Mandaglio Award and worked on staff for two summers.

In recent years, Tim has performed in community and semi-professional productions across Muskoka, with roles including Gaston (Beauty and the Beast), The Wolf/Prince (Into the Woods), Laurie (Little Women), Tom Collins (RENT), and Sky (Mamma Mia). He has served as a committee member with PARC Organization and the Huntsville Festival of the Arts, supporting fringe, arts education, and fundraising initiatives. Beyond theatre, Tim is Director of Operations at Northern Edge Algonquin retreat centre—a role that has shaped his collaborative, co-creative approach to leadership and community building.

Tim’s return to North Bay inspired him to reconnect with like-minded artists and establish Constellation Theatre Co., recognizing the need for adult-focused musical theatre. He is grateful to the board that has come together and looks forward to future connections, productions, and possibilities.

Her passion for mentorship, creative collaboration, and governance continues to shape her work building inclusive and sustainable arts communities.

Emily Hawton,

Emily is absolutely thrilled to be a part of the founding team for Constellation Theatre Co. She is excited to work alongside like-minded artists to help create and share meaningful theatre opportunities and experiences.

A proud graduate of the Arts Nipissing program and SHSM at Widdifield Secondary School, Emily began performing at a young age across North Bay. At 11, she was cast in The Sound of Music with Mirvish Productions, an experience that inspired her to pursue a career in the arts. She went on to study at Randolph College for the Performing Arts in Toronto, honing her craft with some of the city’s finest teachers. Following her graduation in 2017, Emily joined Lower Ossington Theatre, where she performed some of her dream roles, including Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz and Katherine Plumber in Disney’s Newsies, before returning to the role of Dorothy in 2019. Other stage credits include Dyanne in Million Dollar Quartet and Belle in Beauty & the Beast.

Most recently, Emily returned to college to explore her passion for education while continuing to pursue opportunities in film and television. She also proudly served as Choreographer for TOROS’ 2024 production of The Addams Family, bringing her journey full circle. With a special interest in outreach and education, Emily is passionate about making theatre accessible, celebrating and connecting the Northern arts community.

What we believe
sets us apart:

1: A Primary Focus on Musical Theatre

We aim to produce at least one full musical theatre production (with an adult cast) each year, complemented by additional programming such as cabarets, non-musical plays, murder mysteries, and more.

2: Community-Rooted, Professionally-Minded:

As an amateur/semi-pro ensemble, we provide a home for performers who value professionalism and artistry while honing their craft. We are committed to building strong relationships with local audiences, artists, and organizations — and, in the long term, collaborating with groups both within North Bay and beyond.

3: Innovative Approaches

Through inclusive casting policies, modern staging choices, and respect for artists’ time and contributions — including strategic rehearsal scheduling and our surplus-sharing model — we bring a fresh perspective designed to create vibrant, memorable experiences for both artists and audiences.

4: Artist-led Transparency

As a co-operative, we prioritize open communication and accountability — financially, artistically, and interpersonally. Our creative and operational decisions are made by our board who answer directly to our members. By centering collaborative leadership, we empower artists at every level.
